SUNKANMI OLOWO
Sunkanmi has a finance and banking experience of over 25 years. He started his career in auditing with rich experience in Accounting, auditing, taxation and Consulting. He has been in the banking industry for over Twenty years working in various units in 4 banks in Nigeria with experience cutting across Marketing, operations, auditing, internal control and bank management. Over twelve years of his experience were spent in Senior management positions.
He was the Head of SME banking in Ecobank Nigeria for over seven years, a period that exposed him to challenges facing SMEs and how to navigate them and position SMEs for growth. He was able to position the SME unit of the bank and introduced landmark products in the bank. He set up the SME club of Ecobank Nigeria and was able to deploy tailor made products for the customers.
He also set up an online market mall called Myall Nigeria (www.mymall.com.ng)for the SMEs customers of the bank. He was part of the team that develop products for SMEs in the bank. He set up the value chain finance model for Ecobank Nigeria Limited where Ecosystem approach was used in linking the Manufacturers, Distributors and the banks in a secured way that significantly de-risk the Distributors.
Sunkanmi is a passionate and tenacious person driven by lofty ideas. He is also passionate about sustainability and set up the Renewable energy desk in Ecobank Nigeria with lots of partners across several locations. He is a well sought after finance expert at conferences on renewable energy and SME financing and has delivered several key technical papers in Dubai, Spain, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
He has attended several trainings, conferences and workshops in Nigeria and different parts of the world. Sunkanmi is also a Consultant to many companies on funding, intermediation and company restructuring.
He is a finance expert with significant knowledge in the following:
Transport Finance: He financed and managed the first Lagos BRT scheme, the first of its kind in sub-Sahara Africa.
Sustainability finance: He designed and set up the Renewable energy desk of Ecobank Nigeria Limited and was involved in mentoring and financing Renewable Energy companies for the deployment of Solar home systems, Biofuels, cook stoves and other RE initiatives. He is a well sought out speaker at RE conferences on Financing Renewables
Project finance: Has been involved in landmark projects in the educational sectors, oil and gas, telecoms and manufacturing sectors of the economy.
Trade transactions: He was once a product manager for the trade business, and is very conversant with international trade terms, conventions and documentations. His knowledge has helped simplified several complex transactions to the benefit of his customers.
Credit structure: His rich experience includes advance knowledge of credit structuring, risk identification and mitigation.
Product development: He set up the Value Chain finance model of Ecobank in 2010 and was responsible for developing several products for SMEs in the bank. He is a seasoned financial product developer.
Sunkanmi obtained a B.sc degree in Botany from the University of Ilorin and an MBA (Marketing options) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of taxation of Nigeria (ACIT). He is a Director of Consistent energy Limited.
